THE PROBLEM
In Sub Saharan Africa, 70% of persons with disabilities (twice national averages) live on less than $ 2.15 a day.
In East Africa alone, 3 million people have a mobility disability and 90% of them do not have access to the tools and opportunities needed to live an autonomous life, sustain their family, and participate in the community.
The disadvantages accumulated in education, personal, and social development translate into a life at the margins: more than 80% of adults have no professional skills and are unemployed. This is even worse for women with disabilities, in a region where the gender gap index is 68%.
Lack of opportunities, not of ability, is the root cause of poverty and social exclusion of persons with disabilities.
OUR MISSION
TAI mission is to break the loop between disability, poverty, and exclusion in Africa.
TAI starts where many others stop, addressing the root-cause of poverty and exclusion of persons with disabilities: lack of opportunities.
Challenging the narrative about persons with disabilities as a powerless burden to society, we offer them the tools and the opportunities they need in their path towards self-reliance, economic empowerment, and social inclusion:
